About | Chief Justice Mark Martin

Chief Justice Mark Martin has had a long and distinguished career in law and public service. He began as a judicial clerk for U.S. District Judge Clyde H. Hamilton, followed by work at the McNair Law Firm. He served as Legal Counsel to NC Governor James G. Martin before being appointed as a Resident Superior Court Judge. After serving on the NC Court of Appeals, Martin became an Associate Justice, and later Chief Justice, of the North Carolina Supreme Court. He also chaired the ABA Judicial Division and contributed to many ABA initiatives, including the World Justice Project.

 

In 2019, Martin transitioned to academia, becoming Dean of Regent University School of Law before taking on the role of Founding Dean at High Point University’s School of Law. His leadership has influenced both the judiciary and legal education.

 

Martin remains a leading figure in judicial reform and education, serving on numerous ABA entities and helping to shape legal discourse at both national and international levels. His contributions reflect a lifelong commitment to justice, leadership, and public service.
